NHS body surveying patients about their experience with urgent care services
16 May 2022 The NHS body which procures services for patients in five north London boroughs - Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey and Islington - is preparing to run a new procurement process to find a provider for NHS 111 and out-of-hours services in the boroughs. As part of the process it is surveying residents about their experiences with these services as currently provided.[…] Read more...

London rail passengers less likely to use trains if services reduced. Are we being used as guinea pigs? - Comment by Karl Brown
16 May 2022 The converse to reducing rail is of course to increase it, and as Crossrail seemed to show, that drives expected demand with areas along the planned route quickly becoming desirable and nearby businesses also paying incremental dues in some form, not least to help fund it. Crossrail 2, before it was cancelled, positioned the New Southgate area and its proposed[…] Read more...

London rail passengers less likely to use trains if services reduced. Are we being used as guinea pigs?
14 May 2022 The results of research into how passengers feel about train services in the capital show dissatisfaction with fare levels, crowding and other aspects of services. A significant finding is that two thirds of passengers say that cuts to services would mean that they would be less likely to use trains. Perhaps people travelling (or no longer travelling) on Great Northern[…] Read more...

Council election results in and around Palmers Green - Comment by Adrian Day
12 May 2022 Agree. Also good to see the 'single issue' anti-LTN candidates fail to get any seats. The claim that only a tiny minority want LTNs is shown to be a lie - both the wards covering the biggest area of the two new LTNS, New Southgate and Palmers Green rejected the Conservatives (who promised to remove them). So what is it that really delays the emergency services? - Comment by Adrian Day
29 Apr 2022 It's not spin - it's an evidence based, thoughtful and considered report. Would be good to see your data counteracting the evidenced arguments in the report please. At Better Streets we are campaigning to end high traffic neighbourhoods throughout the Borough as just one of several measures to reduce traffic and speed the journeys for emergency vehicles. So what is it that really delays the emergency services? - Comment by Ediz Mevlitt
29 Apr 2022 I see the usual spin ….. imagine pushing congestion upon others for self gain and delay ES and then blaming everyone else …. It honestly makes me feel very uncomfortable that others are willing to use others as collateral damage just to get a quiet road. As a former 999 responder I can categorically say closures like this delay ES[…] Read more...

So what is it that really delays the emergency services? - Comment by Adrian Day
29 Apr 2022 The only cause of congestion is traffic - if people used their cars less there would be less traffic. Low traffic neighbourhoods have less traffic because they encourage people to consider other modes of transport. That's why Better Streets is campaigning for low traffic neighbourhoods throughout Enfield. Please let the party leaders know that we need to end high traffic[…] Read more...

New analysis further undermines case for incinerator rebuild - Comment by Karl Brown
28 Apr 2022 Yes, burning waste really can’t be “green”. That said, the EU and UK deemed it better than landfill and are taxing the latter ever more heavily – facilitating fly tipping it seems in so doing - to make incineration the chosen route for residual waste. The NLWA followed that lead. The statement that there is sufficient incineration capacity within London[…] Read more...

So what is it that really delays the emergency services? - Comment by Karl Brown
28 Apr 2022 I suspect this debate might be at the margin of the actual problem being experienced – a friend’s near 90 year old mother living on Aldermans hill falls, crawls to the phone and most likely has a broken hip. Quoted ETA for the ambulance was 4 hours. That was not bollards, or congestion, rather system issues which seem to have[…] Read more...

So what is it that really delays the emergency services? - Comment by Ann Jones
28 Apr 2022 The conclusion of this report is bizarre to say the least – they say congestion delays ambulances, which of course it does. Low Traffic Neighbourhoods cause congestion therefore they delay ambulances but this Trumpian-style conclusion is that they don’t. Here’s this morning’s image of congestion on Bourne Hill, and there was similar on Winchmore Hill Road and High Street as[…] Read more...
