This has been an extremely difficult year for us all, with many experiencing loss, grief and uncertainty as a result of Covid-19. At the same time, we’ve seen overwhelming kindness and community spirit – whether that’s checking in on neighbours, volunteering time to help others or staying at home and social distancing to protect our NHS, the pandemic has brought out the best in us.
The Covid Community Campaign has been launched by Dame Louise Casey and London Councils, with the Mayor of London and leading national food poverty charities the Trussell Trust, FareShare, Magic Breakfast and Social Bite also lending their support. It aims to build on this incredible community spirit and make sure everyone has what they need to get by as we approach the coldest months of the year.
We are facing an unprecedented poverty crisis in this country, with over 14 million people living in poverty and 8.4 million people at risk of going hungry each week. Proceeds raised from the Covid Community Campaign will go to four fantastic organisations working to tackle food poverty both now and long-term: FareShare, the Trussell Trust, Magic Breakfast and Social Bite. One-fifth of proceeds will also go to local charities based in each participating council’s area.
