images/logos/age_uk_enfield_logo_padded_520px.pngLast summer Age UK Enfield (AUKE) ran a six-month long support project for armed forces veterans and their families. Earlier this month it launched a similar but longer (2-year) scheme, as before funded by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust. The project is designed to tackle loneliness and isolation in veterans and their families, to connect them to others and  to develop new activities that keep them engaged and part of the community. AUKE is looking to set up social groups both on Zoom and, when restrictions allow, in person, and also a cycling group.

Have you served in the Armed Forces including National Service? Age UK Enfield would like to hear from you!

Age UK Enfield has launched a Veteran Support Project, a new service which supports anyone who has served in the Armed Forces or National Service and their families.

Funded by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund, the 2-year project will support Veterans living in Enfield to reduce isolation and loneliness. The project will run fortnightly social and physical activity groups on Zoom and in-person (restrictions allowing), supporting people to make friends, be physically and mentally active and linking them to local activities and services.

Kate Reader, the Veteran Support Project Advisor, said:

‘This is a really exciting project to be involved with and complements the 6-month Veteran Support Project Age UK Enfield ran last year. Loneliness and social isolation is an issue for many Veterans living in Enfield, more so with the pandemic, and this project is a wonderful opportunity to begin to address this issue and offer support. The project will give Veterans and their families the opportunity to meet other people in a friendly, social environment, take part in physical activity if they wish and link with Age UK Enfield and other local services. We can support anyone who has completed at least one day of military service including National Service, and are hoping to offer our support to many people over 50 in Enfield’.

To be eligible for this service, the person needs to be a Veteran (anyone who has completed at least 1 day of military service) and be 50+ or be a close family member of a Veteran.

If you or someone you know is interested in this service and would like more information they can contact Kate Reader at or 020 8375 4120.
