Andrew Hall, who has worked at Age UK Enfield’s Parker Centre since 2005, won the Outstanding Dementia Carer award, Debbie Fearon was highly commended in the Dementia Carer award, the Parker Centre was highly commended in the Care Team award, and 13 nominees were shortlisted for a variety of awards across the categories. Andrew started out as a care worker in the community, where he specialised in working with people with dementia. In 2008 he bought his extensive skills and experience to the Parker Day centre, where he works as a care worker.

Ben Ingber, chief executive officer of Age UK Enfield, said:

"I’m incredibly proud of Andrew, Cynthia and Debbie, and the whole team at Age UK Enfield who pulled together and worked so hard under difficult circumstances. It really shows how our organisation is at the heart of the community, working to improve the lives of all older people in the borough.

"We rapidly developed an emergency response as soon as Covid-19 hit, including hot meal deliveries, telephone befriending, shopping services and prescription collections, home exercise and activity packs, as well as ensuring our Information and Advice, Home Care and Day care were available to those most in need.

"As well as our existing service users needing different or additional support, we also supported a lot of older people who previously hadn’t used our services, they had been managing quite well, but whose normal support services were no longer operational. The speed at which our staff members and volunteers responded was really so impressive, I’m so proud of what we achieved, and I’m delighted that this has been recognised by the Great British Care Awards."
