Local charity Cooking Champions is running a Big Give campaign aimed at raising funds so that they can provide free cooking lessons for children. The Childhood Trust has undertaken to match fund donations from the public - the cutoff date is 17th June.

Kids Can Cook!

Learning to make tasty, nutritionally balanced meals is a life skill with huge mental and physical health benefits. Cooking Champions would like to run more of our popular childrens' cooking lessons in our dedicated community kitchen. Using fresh produce and respecting dietary and cultural choices.

Situation

The large majority of children do not have sufficient access to food education in school due to very limited allocated time in the school curriculum or lack of food technology rooms.

Extra curricular cooking lessons can be extremely expensive and unaffordable for the majority of the community that we serve.

Several of the families we already support live in temporary or over crowded accommodation which makes cooking very challenging.

Solution

We will provide free to access cooking lessons for children aged 7-15 years old.

These sessions will be led by our expert qualified cooking teachers in our dedicated community kitchen.

We will provide all the ingredients and equipment including containers to take food home and recipe cards to replicate the meals made.

Children will have their own work station and the kitchen is fully accessible for those with mobility issues. We are able to adapt lessons to cater for individuals' learning needs.
