PGC reader Shirley recently became a volunteer with the Felix Project, based at their depot in Enfield. She asked for this advert to go on the website, adding "They are a really great organisation to volunteer with".

The cost of living crisis means that more and more London families, both in and out of work, have had to turn to food banks for help. The Felix Project is working hard to address this need. We’re London’s largest food redistribution charity, rescuing high quality surplus food that would otherwise go to waste. In 2024 we redistributed enough food to make 38 million meals for Londoners via over 1200 community organisations and schools.

We can only do this work because of the amazing people who volunteer with us. Our volunteers are mostly based in one of our warehouses in Enfield, Acton, Poplar and Deptford. Around 16,000 tonnes of food was donated to the Felix Project last year so we always need extra help to sort and pack the food and deliver it to our partner organisations who distribute it. We also have a small number of admin roles and even a central London scheme where we deliver directly to community organisations which city workers can help at after work! We even have a kitchen in our Poplar depot that turns fresh food into nutritious ready meals for people who don’t have access to a kitchen.

Anne, who comes in weekly as a Warehouse Volunteer, says that:

“Volunteering with Felix means I get to rescue good food from going to waste and help get it to people who really need it. It’s a powerful way to fight food poverty and make an impact.”.

Mike, who also comes in weekly as a Warehouse Volunteer, says that:

“It’s great for your fitness! Add in the friendly staff, strong health and safety standards, and a welcoming community — it’s a brilliant organization to support each week.”.

We’ll offer you a comprehensive induction and safety briefing before your first shift, and you can work alongside some of our regular volunteers and staff who can support you for as long as you need. We understand that everyone has a busy life. So whether you can volunteer for a few hours a month or at a regular time each week, there is an important part for you to play.
