This year MCR Pathways is partnering with Haringey Learning Partnership to set up a mentoring scheme in our neighbouring north London borough. The new initiative will provide support to students who may be at risk of permanent exclusion and who would benefit from a short-term break from their mainstream school, with the aim of helping them reintegrate successfully. A mentor can be a steady, consistent and encouraging presence during this period of change, making a meaningful difference to a young person’s confidence, motivation and future opportunities. Mentoring is also highly rewarding for volunteers – when one person mentors, two lives are changed.
What mentoring involves:
- Who: Mentors aged 21 or over, from all walks of life
- Commitment: Just one hour a week during school hours, term time, for a minimum of one academic year (approx 38h)
- Training & support: No prior experience needed - just a willingness to listen, learn, and support
- Matching: You’ll be carefully matched with a young person based on shared interests and personality
- Meeting: meetings take place in one of Haringey's secondary schools (you can choose which one is most convenient for you)
Online information sessions are available for those who want to learn more about the programme and how to get involved (Haringey and Enfield residents welcomed): eventbrite.com/cc/haringey-online-information-sessions-4799787
The next few online information sessions will take place at the following times
Though the scheme is based in Haringey, people living in Enfield borough are welcome to volunteer. Several of the schools involved are close to the borough boundary and very accessible for Enfield residents, including Duke’s Aldridge Academy, St Thomas More RC School, and Mulberry Academy Woodside.
