As we confidently forecast in the weekly newsletter, last Sunday was hot and sunny and people turned out in droves to listen to the Broomfield Blues in Broomfield Park.  They also stopped by at the Community Orchard to admire the wildflowers, see how the apples were coming on, drink home-made apple wine and observe the insects in their bug hotel, the Bugsingham Palace.  A few visitors even tried their hand at croquet on the former bowling green.  And there were chilli plants on.......

If you travel to Bowes Park station, walk up the stairs from the platform and turn right (towards Bounds Green), the first building you encounter when leaving the station is Shaftesbury Hall, a former chapel now known locally as the "Tin Tabernacle".  It's a rare survivor of a type of metal self-assembly church that sprang up the Victorian era, but is now in a state of disrepair. Shaftesbury Hall aka the Tin TabernacleSince 1974 the Tin Tabernacle has belonged to North London Samaritans,.......

The Trilogy begins with Rembetika and Beyond - A Journey into the Greek Blues, a concert at the Millfield Theatre.......

Twenty years ago a new musical venture began in Winchmore Hill – an amateur string orchestra. Called unpretentiously the Winchmore String Orchestra (WSO), or simply the Winchmore Strings, it was the creation of a local professional violinist and teacher, Stanley Lishak, and his wife Bertha, a viola-player. Today, with a core membership of more than two dozen that is boosted by the addition of guest players at concerts, the orchestra is in fine form. Most of its members live in the boroughs.......
