Sections of at least four streets in Palmers Green remained cordoned off until the late afternoon on Friday 13th June as police and forensics officers continued to investigate an incident involving gunshots and a stabbing in the town centre that occurred in the late evening on Thursday and left the stab victim with life-threatening injuries.

Police removing a BMW saloon from the Green Lanes end of Park Avenue late Friday afternoon

Walking around PG between 4pm and 5pm on Friday I observed four areas taped off by the police and blocked by officers and cars:

  • The western end of Park Avenue where it meets Green Lanes was taped off, and the cordon extended south along the pavement on Green Lanes almost as far as the post office, and north along Green Lanes as far as Tony's Pita. In addition to uniformed police, forensics officers were present. A BMW saloon was being loaded onto the back of a police recovery vehicle.
  • On the western side of Green Lanes a section of pavement was taped off and blocked by a police car near 451 Green Lanes (Suffolk House).
  • Entry to Devonshire Road from Devonshire Square was taped off and guarded by police.
  • Entry to The Grove from Hazelwood Lane was taped off and guarded by police.

Later in the day I was forwarded a screenshot of a message that had been posted to an unidentified social media group, apparently from the police and sent at 08:06 on Friday morning (see below).

Incident Details: Dear Partners,

Police were called late last night following reports of Gunshots heard at two locations, close in proximity. One location being DEVONSHIRE ROAD, and the other being GREEN LANES J/W PARK AVENUE, N13.

Following initial enquiries at the scenes it has been established that both incidents are linked. The investigation is currently being led by officers from the Specialist crime team; Trident, supported by local detectives from North Area CID.

You will see increased Police presence in the area due to a crime scenes being in place, but also to provide reassurance for the local community. We are keen to speak to members of the local

As per the rules, police officers posted at the various cordons were not giving details, but anecdotal information provided by other people (possibly just rumours) suggests that the incidents occurred around 11.30pm on Thursday, that a weapon (not clear whether à gun or a knife) was discovered under a car parked in Devonshire Road, and that incidents may have occurred in an alley near the post office and/or the Pellipar Close car park.

A short section of The Grove, at the junction with Hazelwood Lane, was closed off by the police
