Enfield Council and the Restart Project are working together to set up a 'mobile repair café' which would operate from multiple venues across the borough, repairing electronic devices and other items, and teaching people repair skills.
The repair cafés will be run by a team of volunteers and will move around the borough, initially using libraries as venues.
If you're interested in volunteering, or just want to find out more, you can register to join a meeting at Enfield Town Library at 12 noon on Saturday 22nd November.
How would a mobile repair café work?
At the October online meeting of Enfield Climate Action Forum (EnCAF) Josie Ball from the Restart Project spoke about the Enfield Repair Café project.
She explained that the Restart Project is a social enterprise whose aim is to help people learn how to repair their broken electronics and rethink how they're consuming them in the first place.
The Project has "fixing factories" - permanent bases on high streets - the goal is to have one on every high street in London where people can bring in broken items and learn how to fix them.
The Project is developing training programmes to teach people how to repair different household appliances.
Josie supports a network of over 50 repair groups across London which are essentially completely community- and volunteer-led. People can not only get things fixed for free, but actually engage in the fixing process and learn how to diagnose problems and hopefully fix them.
In Enfield the aim is to have one repair group that moves across the borough. Initially the venues will be libraries - Palmers Green, Ordnance, Enfield Town and Edmonton Green are all being considered.
Repair Enfield introductory and volunteer recruitment event

Saturday 22 November 12.00pm - 2.00pm
Enfield Town Library, 66 Church Street EN2 6AX
We’re building a new Community Repair Group, with the support of Enfield Council. The group will run regular Repair Cafés in different locations across the borough, bringing repair to different areas of Enfield!
Join us to hear more about our plans and how you could get involved! We'd love to meet anyone interested in volunteering, any organisations or groups who'd like to support and anyone generally interested in finding out more.
This is NOT a repair event where you will be able to get things fixed YET.
What is a repair café?
It’s a free community repair event, where volunteers help people fix their broken or slow electronic devices and small appliances, saving them from waste and changing our relationship with electronics.
Over time, we hope to grow this group to include other repair areas and offer bike and textile repairs.
You just can’t beat the buzz of a busy repair café - beyond fixing, and being part of something sustainable, they’re a great opportunity to meet new people over a cup or tea!
Volunteers are the heart of repair cafés and will help make all of this possible
There are plenty of ways to take part, from supporting as a fixer (electronics, textiles or bikes), hosts, data collectors or admin support.
All skill levels are welcome! We're all about doing it together and it's the perfect opportunity to share your skills with others, alongside picking up new ones.
If you can’t attend and would like to be kept in the loop, please email .
