Broomfield Blues 2026

Sunday 9 August until Sunday 30 August 1.30pm - 5.30pm

Bandstand, Broomfield Park, Aldermans Hill N13 4PL///format.clouds.verbs

The Friends of Broomfield Park and the St Harmonica's Blues Club bring you another 'best of blues'. Come along and eat, drink and listen to the music.

Entry each Sunday is free to all.

Palmers Green and Southgate play host to North London's top Blues club - St Harmonica's Blues Club located at the Southgate Club N14 5EN. With support from our generous sponsors Winkworth, the Southgate Club, Ralph utchings, Phil Davison & Mike Barrett, St Harmonica's Blues Club in conjunction with The Friends of Broomfield Park are delighted to bring you another August full of the best in local, national and international Blues.

Broomfield Blues is our annual celebration and showcase of what can be found every Friday evening at St Harmonica's Blues Club, three times finalists in the UK Blues Awards 'Venue of the Year' category. Starting on 9th August, Sunday afternoons in August mean you should come along to the park to eat, drink and listen to three hours of some of the best Blues music London has to offer. We firmly believe that live music should be accessible and affordable and thanks to our sponsors we are able to maintain these as being FREE events, open to all. If you like what you hear all we ask is that you acknowledge that with a voluntary donation into the collection "hat", either when it does the rounds or via the Control Site. We've picked some excellent local hot food providers for your added enjoyment and a very fine bar run by the Little Green Dragon Ale House to complete your enjoyment.

More details of everything can be found in this flyer, also kindly funded by our sponsors. Read, enjoy and come along to as many of the four concerts as you can. Unless the weather is absolutely shocking we will certainly be there each Sunday; and if the weather does let us down we will endeavour to relocate the music to the Southgate Club itself, home to St Harmonicas, a few minutes' walk, or bus ride away in Southgate just 50metres from Southgate Underground Station.

OPEN MIC SESSIONS Each afternoon is preceded by a one hour "open mic" session at 1:30 offering a stage to up and coming as well as experienced performers. Do support them. Apply for an open mic slot to by 26th July 2026. We aim to give priority to new performers who haven't performed before on the bandstand. (Doesn't have to be strictly blues)

Week 1- Sunday 9th August - Local Blues

1:30 - 2:30 OPEN MIC SESSIONS

2:30 - 3:45 DOC K'S BLUES BAND

There are some who say that Doc K's Blues Band are the finest purveyors of Chicago Blues in the capital - they are certainly one of the longest running. Formed in Muswell Hill in 1966, just like Trigger's broom, Doc K has seen many new handles and heads but it is still the same band! Mad Dog Dave Barnes has been a constant presence in the band for more than 40 years. Dave has just about the finest voice in UK Blues, and plays a mean slide guitar too. And for the first time in its history Doc K boasts a genuine MD in the form of former neurologist Dr Ika on lead guitar. Mick Parker anc Dave Thomas provide the groove. This is authentic blues at its very best.

4.00- 5.30 THE BLUES CHAPTER

The Blues Chapter are probably the finest young Blues band in London They are certainly the most popular band we've ever put on at St Harmonica's. Niol Sweeney, drums and Lindsay Fraser Craig, bass, provide the foundation for Sky Wood on vocals, guitar and harmonica, Jesse Thomas on sizzling, hot shot guitar and Jacob; Professor Redhair, Thomas on keys and piano to strut their stuff with shades of Gary Moore, SRV and Joe Bonamassa in their repertoire; a great festival band and along with Doc Ks, a great way to start the 2026 Sunday Sessions.

All timings approximate.

Week 2 - Sunday 16th August - The Real Blues

1:30 - 2:30 OPEN MIC SESSIONS

2:30 - 3:45 HOUSE RED

House Red is the house band from the award nominated St Harmonica's Blues Club. An Outstanding band led by the powerful vocals of Chrissie Thomas (likened to the late, great Ottilie Patterson). With John Crowther on guitar, Simon Bennett on keyboards, Les Cole on drums and Dave Thomas on bass. House Red deliver a vintage and eclectic blend of rocking and soulful blues. These are the people that make the local blues scene happen!

4:00 - 5:30 STUART MAXWELL'S BLUES RAIDERS

The Blues Raiders are Stuart Maxwell harmonica/keyboards/vocals; Matt Edwards, guitar; Derek White, bass; and Jason Reeve, drums. Expect an entertaining afternoon of classic and original blues from this very impressive line up of musicians.

He has toured the UK, Europe and Scandinavia and has recorded live sessions for BBC Radio 1 and the BBC Radio 2 blues show. His music has also been featured on BBC Radio 3's Late Junction. He was the front man for the Mick Ralph's Blues Band (Bad Company, Mott the Hoople), played Hammond organ with the Pete Brown band and toured with 70s R&B icons Brewer's Droop. He also made four critically acclaimed albums with the progressive blues band Storm Warning!

Week 3 - Sunday 23rd August - Blues with Roots, Slide & Twang

1:30 - 2:30 OPEN MIC SESSIONS

2:30 - 3:45 HOPPERSTOMP

Hopperstomp perform and pay homage to the early jug bands who popularized the blues and made it louder and danceable in the first part of the 20th century. When you put Ruth Mignano and Dave Buckwell of That Blue Patch together with the guitars, mandolins and vocals of John Crowther and Simon Vasey's percussion skills it adds up to a riot of musicality that faithfully represents and builds on those old stomping sounds of the days before amplification. John Crowther also plays the jug to add authenticity.

4:00 - 5:30 THE CUSTOMTONES

We make no apology for inviting the Customtones back to Broomfield Park to entertain us. Apart from always bringing the sunshine they are one of the finest and tightest units around. Led by Martin Fieber, the “Sultan of Slide”, who is the UK's best kept slide secret. He makes all his own guitars under his Customtone label, bringing that authentic 1950s and 60s twang sound to the band. Some of their original material is just wonderful combining humour and wit whilst remaining faithful to the blues.

All times approximate.
