Community climate talk: Together we can change things

Monday 15 August 2022 6.45pm - 9.00pm

St John on Bethnal Green, 200 Cambridge Heath Road E2 9PA

202208 community climate talk

Will you join the conversation?

Come and hear the facts from scientists, who are touring towns and cities across the country this summer to share their knowledge about the crisis.

They will be joined by members of your local community who will be sharing their experiences of organising and taking action to play their part in creating a healthier and safer planet for children everywhere.

We invite you to come and mingle, sit down, share food, and chat with like-minded people from your community. Everyone is welcome - let's decide together what we can do to change things for the better.

It's time to stop feeling powerless and alone, and to get to know other amazing local people who want to make a difference too.

Together we can change things.

The event is hosted by Extinction Rebellion.

Speaker: Chris Jones

Chris Jones is one of a team of experts from Scientists for Extinction Rebellion who are touring 20 towns and cities this summer to talk about the climate crisis, share their knowledge, and help communities to respond. Chris was a science teacher who now works full time on climate activism and research and believes everyone needs to engage with the climate emergency, and what we can do to help change things.

One of Chris's recent projects has been to interview leading scientists on climate change. There were dire warnings from the climate scientists from the various universities that he worked with and the conclusion that he drew was that the earth as we know it is at the precipice. The solutions on their own can mitigate some effects with the current levels of warming, but in reality heating is still happening and more greenhouses gases are being produced than stored so more needs to be done on a systematic scale to bring us back from the edge.

Come along to the talk and see how we can make a difference together.
