This really something special “Her voice (Louise Balkwill) and everything else that comes with the package of a master vocalist is pure soul, swing and fire!”
Leroy Jones, master New Orleans trumpet player .
Join us at Obie’s on Wednesday 29 April, 8pm for an exciting evening featuring award winning vocalist, Louise Balkwill, trombonist and vocalist Malcolm Earle Smith and a terrific rhythm section of Mark Ridout (guitar), Sam Ingvorsen (bass), and Dominic Hall (drums).
Expect an evening that draws on the ‘Second Line’ music of New Orleans, the earthy Blues styles of Bessie Smith and Dr John, and exciting Scat-infused bop of Sarah Vaughan and Eddie Jefferson. In addition, Louise will be treating us to some of her original Vocalese - the art of writing and singing lyrics to instrumental solos and they may be a duet or two.
