The Fletcher Henderson Project is a 13 piece band (plus vocalist) which specialises in jazz music of the 1930s- the dance music of the day! Started in 2020 at Trinity Laban Conservatoire and coached weekly by Malcolm Earle Smith, FHP delights in exploring the world of early ‘Big Band’ music.
Fletcher Henderson is perhaps a name not as well known as Count Basie, Benny Goodman and Duke Ellington, but his band was one of the earliest and most respected groups.Fletcher’s arrangements were highly influential and make up a large part of our ‘book’, although we also play music from the libraries of Basie, Ellington, Benny Carter, Mary Lou Williams and Don Redman. This promises to be a joyful evening for both listeners and dancers alike!
“You could say they played that thing! Wow! These guys really can play!”
