A Repair Café is a community event where people bring broken household items - such as small electrical appliances, textiles, bikes, or small furniture - and skilled volunteers help repair them for free. The aim is to:
- Reduce waste by fixing rather than discarding items
- Promote sustainability and circular economy principles
- Share skills between volunteers and attendees
- Build community connections in a friendly, social setting (often with refreshments).
This is not a commercial service; it’s a collaborative, educational experience that empowers people to extend the life of their belongings and learn repair skills, aligned with the Council’s ambitions to facilitate behaviour change and a move toward a circular economy, as set out in the Climate Action Plan.
Repair Cafés are an established phenomenon across the UK with several running all around London, and now finally in Enfield.
The initiative is led by the Libraries service with support from The Restart Project.
