Once again we welcome a band to the club this Friday for the first time in the form of the BB Blues Band, a veritable smorgasbord of talent.
Tony Qunta is no stranger to St Harmonica’s, having been the guitarist and vocalist when Sam Kelly’s Station House performed for us last year. Those of you that saw him know that he is a brilliant professional guitarist, who has performed with legendary names including Edgar Winter and Hazel O’Connor. In the BB Blues Band he collaborates with Soh Breezy, a highly respected vocalist and keyboard player, with whom he shares vocal duties. Soh Breezy has performed with top jazz musician Alan Barnes as well as Soft Machine’s John Etheridge and Den Hegarty from Darts.
They are backed by a supreme rhythm section comprising Henry Thomas on bass (Ginger Baker, Jim Capaldi and Justin Hayward as well as being part of Sarah Jane Morris’ touring band) and Roger Batty on drums, who has performed with Dave Stewart and Yvonne Catterfield as well as projects with U2. Expect this band to jazz them blues with shades of Hendrix added to the mix along with other classics.
You’ll want to see the support act as well: house favourites Jesse Thomas and Sky Wood return as Two Man Job to play their acoustic set for everyones benefit. We can’t wait.
Support act starts at 8.30pm followed by two sets from the main starting soon after 9.00pm.
Membership Cards are available on the door @ £10 for the year. You’ll need your monochrome 2026 membership card for free admission throughout 2026 to all Friday Blues evenings and Sunday Jam nights. We just ask for a contribution into the hat to go towards the musicians’ costs.
See you soon,
Simon, John, Chrissie & Dave
St Harmonica's at the Southgate Club
St Harmonica's is at the Southgate Club on Fridays - apart from the first Friday of the month. Instead of the first Friday of the month, St Harmonica's will be two days later, ie the Sunday after the first Friday (which in some months will be the second Sunday of the month).
St Harmonica's Blues Club is based at the
Southgate Club and Art Gallery, just 50m from Southgate Underground Station, with the entrance to the Blues Club in Crown Lane N14 5EN. Nominated, and twice finalists, for UK Blues Venue of the year St Harmonica's Blues Club has been providing the best blues in North London for over 20 years. Run by musicians for musicians and Blues fans we soon outgrew our humble beginnings in a small venue in Palmers Green; we then spent 10 years at St Monica's Parish Centre from which a play on words gave us our club name. Our view is that live music should certainly not be free but that it should be affordable and accessible to everyone, as well as of the highest quality.
With seating for over 100 and plenty more standing room the venue has a terrific bar and stage area for the bands. On Friday evenings (except the first Friday of the month) you will see performers from 8.30pm to 11.30pm while on the Sunday following the first Friday of the month we hold our monthly Blues Jam from 6.30pm with all welcome.
Our aim has always been to put on the best in UK, international and local Blues, making it available to all. To do this we need to have large and appreciative audiences, reward the musicians appropriately and ensure the survival of our home at the Southgate Club. £10 annual membership gives you free admission to all our Friday and Sunday events. Our glamorous assistant moves through the crowd for donations into 'the hat' according to what you can afford and feel that the evening is worth; that’s how we pay the musicians. Annual membership with free admission each week runs until the end of the calendar year. (Non members are charged £10 admission on the door or encouraged to become members of course!)
