Hidden beneath the grass of the Forty Hall Estate lies the remains of the Royal Palace of Elsyng, which was once owned by King Henry VIII and who used the palace as a base for deer hunting.
This talk is an exciting opportunity to gain an insight into the palace, and the lifestyles that it offered to those that lived or worked there, through archaeological finds and historical documents.
Join Dr Martin Dearne, Elsyng Palace Excavations Director, to reveal the fascinating buildings and history of the palace as well as objects unearthed during the annual excavations on the site. The talk will include finds that are not on public display, including Tudor and Stuart jewellery and painted pottery, a lead angel and even Tudor graffiti, providing a truly rare experience.
