Director Elene Naveriana’s film tells the story of a middle-aged single woman living in a remote Georgian village whose life is changed forever after a near-death experience.
Naveriana’s approach is based around what they call “a cinema of resistance,” bringing stories of marginalised lives to the screen. Here, in this tender story of loneliness and love, the wonderful actress Eka Chavleishvili, combining severity and sensuality, plays Etero, an unconventional 48-year-old woman struggling to find her place in a small rural community. The local gossips with their pitying glances might find it hard to believe, but she is single by choice. Although when the possibility of love arrives, she must face the choice between commitment and her hard-won freedom, and consider what it means to be fulfilled.
