Talkies Community Cinema and The Enchanted Cinema present The Snowman at 40: Family workshop plus film screening

Following Raymond Briggs’ passing, we wish to pay tribute to the life of this incredible illustrator by celebrating the screening of his seminal children’s book – The Snowman – the animated film of which was first shown on 26th December, 1982.

Our fun and interactive event, featuring contributions from your good elves… sorry, selves, starts with a vocal warm-up, preparing the chorister within for the unforgettable Walking in the Air sequence. The Enchanted Cinema performers then ask for help with sound FX for different images seen in the film including an owl, a toothbrush, a whale, the sea, a musical box, a running tap, feet jumping through the snow, and a tearaway motorbike, using FX brought in by you or using your voice. The 30-min workshop is followed by Dianne Jackson’s magical animation (also 30 mins) screened 40 years ago, and audiences are invited to meet the performers and even try out their instruments after the show and leaf through a copy of the children’s book which will be on display as well as some of Raymond’s early sketches for the book.

The Enchanted Cinema are two Orff-trained musicians, Gareth & Kieron, who create fun and interactive participatory events to a century of beautiful hand-crafted animation.

Suitable for children and adults of all ages.

Duration: 1 hour
