The Southgate Sessions: Rosemary Edwards and Mike Parker

Sunday 12 July 3.30pm

Christ Church, The Green, Southgate, N14 7EG

Join us for an afternoon of rarely heard gems, featuring some of the finest music of the 18th century for cello and harp played on original instruments.

  • Cervetto - Sonata no.4 in C minor
  • Paxton - Sonata no. 4 in F
  • Meyer - No.4 in F major
  • Cirri - Sonata no.4 in A major

Rosemary Edwards studied the modern cello with Bruno Schrecker, and at the Royal Academy of Music with Florence Hooton. Having spent four years in the Nürnberg Symphony Orchestra, she worked as a freelance orchestral player in London, mainly as a member of the orchestra of English National Ballet.

Rosemary studied baroque cello with Alice McVeigh and Jenny Ward Clark, and has played with the Hanover band and the English Haydn Orchestra. She plays an English cello from about 1800 and her bow is a copy by Matthew Coltman of one by John Dodd c. 1740.

Mike Parker studied harp building at the London College of Furniture, went on to study music history and performance with the Institute of Traditional Celtic Music, and in 2005, gained an MMus in performance from Goldsmiths College. Mike taught at the London College of Music Junior Department, where he is head of strings, and has three solo recordings

Mike’s harp was probably made in Paris c. 1790. It is a single-action harp with crochet mechanism, in which small hooks pull the strings against the neck.

Free to attend. All welcome.

William Waine

Director of Music, Christ Church Southgate
