Theatre/Dance: Journal of 7

Friday 18 October and Saturday 19 October 7.30pm

Millfield Theatre, Silver Street, N18 1PJ

202410 journal of 7

Journal of 7 (JO7) delves into the untold and often taboo stories within African culture, focusing on the 'Seven Deadly Sins'. The piece stems from Olu's lived experiences of these cultural norms, the performance weaves through themes of relationships with her mother, migration, polygyny, fatal curses, and toxic doctrines passed down through generations.

Blending a range of Afro Dance styles, JO7 merges popular dance forms such as Azonto, Coupe Decale, and Afro House with traditional dances like Kpanlogo, Gome, and Mapouka. Olu presents an authentic portrayal of African culture, addressing sensitive topics with care and respect.

Audiences will get a glimpse into the journal entries of an African woman, exploring her experiences with the seven deadly sins from an African perspective. The narrative is conveyed in an abstract manner while maintaining a strong focus on the overarching theme of the seven deadly sins.

Join us for the debut of JO7 and experience a powerful, thought-provoking performance that brings these poignant stories to life.

While we admire and support the Christmas campaigns that we see pop up in December, we also know that help is urgently needed all year round, each and every year. As some people pack away after the festive break, we are still here.

Our support is not limited to a food package, but it leaps beyond - we form connections, we listen and respond to everyone who steps through our doors. We open up a warm, safe, environment which aims to feel like a home away from home.

For us to continue to thrive and grow, and keep supporting as many people as possible, we are asking you to become a Friend of Cooking Champions. Even a donation of just £5-10 per month can make a HUGE impact on the lives of those who come through our doors.

Pop to our People's Fundraising page to donate, and we promise to keep you updated with how your support is making a difference. Thank you, we appreciate you! Team Cooking Champions
