Saturday 14 January 2023 2.30pm - 5.00pm

The Southgate Club, 17 Chase Side, N14 5BP (Entrance is in Crown Lane)

202301 sdcv spring open meeting

In the 90th anniversary year of the opening of the Piccadilly line extension north of Arnos Grove to Southgate and Cockfosters, Transport for London’s heritage managers Gareth Leslie and Edmund Bird will be presenting a talk about this stretch of the line and Southgate station in particular, its renowned architect Charles Holden and its design and architectural features which have been recognised by Historic England’s Grade II* designation – one of only five at this grade on the 272 station network. The challenges of maintaining and adapting a station of this age, distinguished architectural pedigree and outstanding heritage protection status as a modern transport hub and retail offer will also be appraised.

This talk is free to members of SDCV.

For non-members tickets cost £5 (including a non-refundable booking fee).

If you decide to join Southgate District Civic Voice, we will be happy to reduce the membership fee to £10 to reimburse the cost of this ticket.
