Perhaps its best to simply let readers make up their own minds whether the Cycle Enfield investment has resulted in any of the planned improvement to PG's public realm.

A large part of the Triangle area was previously inaccessible; instead it was (very) effectively railed off. Now it’s available for eg seasonal trees, such as this one sponsored by local hair care experts, Fabulous. Fabulous were an early backer of the Palmers Green Festival, helping secure its development when funds were extraordinarily tight; it was good to see continuation of their backing for PG.

A shame the green planting bed has not been replaced in some manner – yet?

A reduced clutter vista is now when evident looking down Green Lanes towards the Triangle from opposite Specsavers. The two lanes for cars remain, as do vacant parking spaces to the western side.

A little further down Green Lanes than the last photos and unfortunately the CCTV pole was indeed “saved”, neither helping the view nor the routing of the cycle lane. Still, on balance an improvement, and now an easier junction to cross over as a pedestrian for a Big Mac.

There is a clear improvement in the public realm. I would, however, like to see more benches. There seems to be a trend in town centres for only having commercial places to sit and rest.

I do however have some criticisms of the implementation. The sections of Green Lanes between the Triangle and Bourne Hill is still missing many bus shelters and flags. There is not currently anywhere for the elderly to rest whilst waiting for a bus, there is no shelter from inclement weather, and there are no timetables or maps, let alone live departure information. Surely these relatively simple facilities could have been quickly reinstalled? Public transport users have already suffered enough with the disruption caused by these works, and this tardiness just adds insult to injury.

Perhaps this is an example of where little or no Mini Holland investment has made no striking differences. A view pretty much "saved".



Catching one taxi in the since-moved taxi rank was rare; to have managed two makes this “before” a potential unicorn-photo. Other than that, pretty much every shop has changed over the last decade, pedestrian protective bollards and the bus stop outside Morrison's are more attractive and Palmers Green shoppers appear to have become noticeable younger - if still continuing to cross Aldermans Hill anywhere other than where it is actually expected.

Tristan - agree re those missing bits. Sadly Sadiq Khan has just slashed funding for active travel - including to boroughs that have already implemented and have financial commitments to schemes like EMH. I understand LBE are currently battling City Hall to secure the final funding tranche for EMH to pay off the contractor. Scheduled completion now March time.

Personally I'm not bothered about benches along streets, just increases clutter and decreases circulation space. Might be nice in the triangle as the surrounding planting makes it a pleasant place to sit. But can't understand why anyone would want to just sit on a busy high road (NB: am not talking about bus stops where there should definitely be seating and shelter).

It’s easy to forget just how cluttered the previous Triangle traffic island could appear before it was saved from being saved.
