A Palmers Green optometrist has been awarded a medal for clinical excellence by the founders of the Specsavers chain of opticians.
Optometrist Jaswinder Singh Nagra from the Palmers Green branch of Specsavers has been awarded the Doug Perkins medal for clinical excellence by the company's founders, Doug and Dame Mary Perkins. He is one of only eight Specsavers optometrists from across the UK and the Republic of Ireland to receive the award this year.
Mr Nagra, who has worked at the branch for 14 years, says he is honoured by the award, given in recognition of going above and beyond for patients - including providing urgent care after hours and driving patients to hospital for emergency secondary care.
"Patient centred care is at the core of my practice. So it’s an honour to receive this award from the founders of Specsavers. I also want to thank my colleagues at the shop, because as a team we are dedicated to serving our community," he says.
He is also an independent prescribing optometrist, so he can clinically assess a patient, establish a diagnosis, determine the clinical management required, and prescribe medicine where necessary.
Mr Nagra’s dedication to clinical excellence extends to supporting colleagues with their professional development. "I’m also proud that Specsavers Palmers Green is a key part of the neighbourhood health service. We’ve built strong relationships with other healthcare providers, including GPs. We look forward to continuing to serve our community" he adds.
Mr Nagra’s altruism also extends to India. During visits, he purchases books, uniforms, and shoes for underprivileged children, conducts eye tests, and provides glasses through local opticians. His establishment of a cancer testing centre for villagers in Punjab underscores his dedication to improving healthcare access in underserved areas. Additionally, donations to the North London Hospice highlight his commitment to supporting vital community services.
