Enfield Palestine Solidarity Campaign have stated that the free speech meeting scheduled for Wednesday 17th September, where the principal speaker was to be Clive Stafford Smith, will no longer be held at Celbic Hall.

The owners of Celbic Hall, Enfield North Labour Party, have cancelled the booking.

Enfield PSC are seeking a replacement venue. If one is found, information about the event will be at the same address on this website:  www.pgweb.uk/event?event_id=21512

What a commentary on the state of the Labour Party that they see a meeting on free speech, with a well-known human rights lawyer, as a threat. Free speech means free for all viewpoints (except advocates of violence), not just those you approve of.
The Labour-run council will also not accept bookings from Palestine Solidarity. Are they tryng to lose votes?

We have a new venue! The meeting will go ahead at 7.30 as planned, but at the Uyghur Education Centre (which used to be a Methodist Church), 611A Green Lanes, N13 4EP. That's on the border between Palmers Green and Winchmore Hill.

This is an important meeting with a great speaker - we hope to see as many of you there as possible!

Despite the late change of venue, 50-60 people turned up to hear a fascinating talk on free speech from Clive Staffod Smith. Not all of us agreed with everything he said, but there was much food for thought - and a considerable sum was donated to the Palestinian cause.
So the Labour Party's attempt to disrupt this meeting failed. One wonders what they have against free speech, but recent national events show that they don't like it. Now we can confirm that Enfield Labour Party don't either.

Would be interested to hear from Bill Linton what some of the main points of the talk by Clive Staffod Smith were as the event wasn't covered by local press. I find it baffling why the local Labour party would want to suppress a talk like this when the speaker has good credentials and the subject has been widely debated on the BBC (Moral Maze on R4) and several times on LBC on talk shows such as Iain Dale where he invites guests with a wide spectrum of views on related subjects.
