PG town centre will be getting some new public art later this year. What sort of art would you like, and where would you like it? To find out more and give your opinion you're invited to a meeting at Starfish Loves Coffee on Wednesday 18th January - pop in between 4pm and 6pm. If you can't make it, there's an online survey running until the end of the month.

Palmers Green town centre has been awarded a grant by Enfield Council under the Create Enfield project to commission some public art in 2023. The project is being steered by the Palmers Green Public Art Team, whose members include Alex McHallam, the artist who created the mosaics on platform 2 at Palmers Green Station, and Aykut Hilmi, owner of Starfish Loves Coffee.

The Public Art Team and the council have been researching the area, looking for potential sites, themes and types of public art that would benefit PG.

On Wednesday 18th January they will be holding a public meeting where they can share their ideas with members of the public, who will also be able to make suggestions.

You're invited to pop in to talk to the team and enjoy a free cup of tea or coffee.

If you can't make the meeting, you can instead fill in a short online survey. using the link below or the QR code. The survey will run until 31st January.

The public art project in Palmers Green and the associated survey are part of a borough-wide project called Curate Enfield , described by the council as follows:

Curate Enfield is a grass roots project to create new public artworks in five Enfield town centres: Southgate, Palmers Green, Angel Edmonton, Edmonton Green and Enfield Town. Each town centre artwork will be developed by ‘Public Art champions’ based in the area.

Working together a young art champion (under 25 years) and a local community champion have received training and mentoring support form a local artist-mentor. Together they will commission the new public art for their town centre.

This project is being piloted by Enfield Council, supported by Arts Council England, with funding that is only available for this project.

As well as the Palmers Green survey, you can input into the discussions about other borough town centres:

For Enfield Town, John Cole of the Enfield Society is working with two 17 year old local art students, Shan and Aisha, and a local professional artist Mark Beattie.
