aldermans hill bridge designs composite 2

Palmers Green Action Team have been given permission by Network Rail to paint the railway bridge on Aldermans Hill. The approved artist for the project is ManyHands, a design studio specialising in tactile brand identities, murals, installations, hand-lettering and events, and funding is being provided by Arbeit Studios, who recently opened a new branch in Palmers Green.

The Action Team say they "want the PG community to decide" on the design and are asking their followers on Facebook to choose between three alternatives (see the image above - I think the numbering is correct). They will announce the decision on Saturday 27th May.

One week to choose seems rather hurried to me, and PGAT seem to assume that everyone in PG uses Facebook and follows them, which is certainly not the case. Having said that, there's no easy way of telling everyone about the poll and Facebook is an obvious way of alerting some people (however, they could at least have asked PGC to share the survey - it's just lucky that I spotted it on one of my infrequent visits to Facebook!)

Another success! I suggest using the initiative as the means to develop a Palmers green, that is a colour which would be the default for PG things wherever green is employed. Whether it would make sense to trademark it (or if that’s required) such as Cadbury Purple or Barbie Pink, is for the experts but as the number of PG initiatives grow it seems to make sense to be talking from a consistent brand palate. So, against that background I probably wouldn’t plump for any of the three.

As it happens, for the last few months I've been working on a technical refresh of PGC (required because the version of the Joomla content management system that I use is obsolescent) with an accompanying graphical refresh. I've chosen a gentler shade of green that matches that used by the London air quality index when air quality is Good. See below for a sneak preview.

Thanks for sharing Basil. This poll has been shared on our Facebook and Instagram pages which go out to around 4300 followers across both the social platforms. At the last count we have had around 500 votes so far.

Thanks Liz, that's an impressive reach. I see too that people now have until Monday evening to get their vote in.

Painting the bridge is a great idea and in other places where it's been done it helps give more of an identity to town centres when people arrive by rail. I particularly like the picture of Sir Thomas Myddelton on the bridge at Bowes Park and the bridge at Harringay Green Lanes station. They tell people that they're not just anywhere, they've arrived at a place.
