Merkur Slots gets several mentions (not in a good way) in a programme on Radio 4 that was broadcast today:

It's clear from this programme that some vulnerable people are losing much more than they can afford and that lives are being ruined.

And if the experiences recounted here are typical, it's clear that AGCs aren't enforcing blocking of vulnerable customers most of the time. And that local authorities aren't monitoring them effectively - just another of the myriad things that councils are suppoed to do but simply can't afford to because governments have been starving them of money.

 

The scandal of innocently named "slot machine venues" is in the news again - see the recent Guardian report entitled " High street slot machine shops pay staff bonuses linked to how much gamblers lose " - and Merkur Slots gets a name check again. High time the government took some measures to put an end to this exploitation of sometimes already very desperate people!
