It was indeed a happy accident (ie a bit of luck) that no-one was walking along the pavement when this crash happened on Thursday morning, but the crash itself was no "accident" - it was caused by a careless driver. I heard from someone who was around at the time it happened that the driver of the white car was holding a phone in one hand and a muffin in the other.

Five people a day are killed on our roads and 60 people seriously injured, causing huge upset to family and friends. Yet society continues to tolerate unsafe driving - speeding, use of phones, dangerous overtaking...

Why are there no speed cameras?
I walk on Bush Hill Road and the speed of some vehicles is unbelievable!
Will more people have to be maimed and die before action is taken?
This is a question I will be asking prospective councillors!
