Ahead of the council elections in May, we are asking each party to commit to five ‘asks’.
These are designed to encourage and support cycling and walking in Enfield, reducing pollution, noise and danger and helping people to get active. They will also help address the council’s ambitious climate change goals. The five asks are:
1. traffic-free streets around every school during school run hours;
2. a complete, coherent network of cycle lanes throughout the borough;
3. pedestrian crossing phases at all signalised junctions;
4. LTNs throughout the borough
5. 5 borough-wide bike and electric car sharing schemes.
Of course there are many other things we’d like but these are the priorities.
We’ll be asking four main parties in Enfield to sign up to these in the coming weeks

Mayor Khan has announced the ULEZ is to extend to the M25 edge by end 2023 to help address London’s deadly air quality. Air quality has been perhaps the hottest LTN topic and so I assume such a move will carry general local support. It’s good health news but certainly not without its challenges for those required to upgrade non-complying vehicles. With that in mind and being aware comprehensive EV charging infrastructure is no small undertaking, I can see a case for the car sharing ask of BSfE to additionally encompass petrol vehicles in the short term to help move a bigger mass of little used vehicles off the roads as well as maximizing the available utility for must-drivers.

Several London politicians have committed to #ClimateSafeStreets campaign already! Please take action to get Enfield's politicians signed-up today at: lcc.org.uk/climate

First was Labour lead Councillor Adam Hug, Westminster. He's already been joined in pledging by Westminster's Lib/Dem lead too.

Every borough says it will help folks walk & cycle more, use cars less, but every politician is also being bombarded by those opposed to action on #ClimateSafeStreets.

Ask our politicians in Enfield to act now on climate & active travel at:https:// lcc.org.uk/climate. It takes 2 mins

Please get this message across to the candidates in your ward:

"Every person on a bike is potentially one more spare seat on a bus

"Every person on a bike is potentially one less driver on the road.

"So those who need to use the roads, can use the roads”

We need zero carbon roads by 2030 for there to be hope of a habitable planet for future generations.

We need #ClimateSafeStreets - and making it easier for people to walk and cycle is an essential part of this. It's in absolutely everyone's interest.

All prospective councillors should be signing up to #ClimateSafeStreets [url=https:// lcc.org.uk/climate[https:// lcc.org.uk/climate[/url]
