National Civic Week and the extraordinary Great Get Together weekend, developed in commemoration of the young mother and MP Jo Cox, killed by an extremist, comes to an end with more bloodshed in an already traumatised London, this time in nearby Finsbury Park. But the world doesn’t have to be like this. Yesterday, as one of many celebrations taking place across Palmers Green and the UK, Old Park Road held their annual street party; a feast of celebration for residents, friends, families and others coming together and simply enjoying, while building new bonds and helping break any of the barriers which separate us all. It works.

It’s not difficult. In the meantime you can read on there the article “Stop the Hate” which outlines some of the recent virtual and worse attacks by residents on other residents simply because they choose to travel by bicycle. I place such in the same category those drivers who yesterday took to abusing younger street marshals at our own and at least one other street party because they were no longer able to drive through on their way to elsewhere. We can all show there is more to life than this constant need and demands for “me” from an all too large minority.
