Members of a tennis club located between Palmers Green and Southgate are celebrating their second award this year and can now boast of having a coach who is among the most qualified in the area. What's more, the quality of the coffee served in the club's café has received the ultimate accolade from one of its members.

Conway Lawn Tennis Club, whose courts are situated in Conway Recreation Ground, received a Highly Commended rating from the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) in the Club of the Year category of the LTA Regional Awards 2022.

The LTA Tennis Awards celebrate the achievements made by outstanding individuals and venues in tennis throughout the past year, from grassroots tennis to elite performance. This latest honour follows on from winning the Middlesex County 2022 Club of the Year award.

The club's chairman, Graham Sievers, commented “Winning this Highly Commended award from the national body underlines the extraordinary work of the volunteers and the coaches, who, together with the members, help make the club such a thriving community.”

“And we are not resting on our laurels” Graham added. “Our café in Conway Rec has been a great success, serving, as one Italian member told us, the best coffee outside Italy! Plus we have now re-opened membership, and our coaching team have introduced new options for great value sessions from juniors through to adults, from beginners through to advanced. Our head coach, Corina Mirea, has just completed her LTA Level 4 training, to become one of the highest qualified coaches in the area.”

Local business Winchmore Brickwork Ltd has sponsored the juniors, and the club is seeking further community-minded support for its inclusivity and training initiatives.

The café is open from 10am to 2pm from Tuesday to Saturday. Visitors are welcome.
