The Friends of Broomfield Park launch their 2017 season of special events in Broomfield Conservatory this Sunday, starting with a Sketching Workshop. The workshop is suitable for people of all ages and there'll be paper and pencils available, or you can bring your own coloured crayons or pastels.  If you need any help, artist Cathy Taylor will be along to advise and assist.

Later special Conservatory events include live music, a children's event - Plant a Turf Head, various plant sales, a jewellery workshop and an orchid event.  As usual, Elizabeth Dobbie will be opening up her garden in Arnos Park Lodge to raise money for the conservatory planting - it was Elizabeth's energy and ideas that propelled the volunteer effort that allowed reopening of the Conservatory.

There's a special page for the Conservatory Events on the Friends of Broomfield Park website, or you can download a list to print out.

Not that you need a special event to justify a visit to the Conservatory.  It's open every Wednesday and Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 (winter) or 2.30 to 4.30 and each time you visit you'll see different flowers in bloom.  At the moment the strelitzia (Bird of Paradise flowers) are in full bloom, there are some wonderful "air plants" and the orchids look as perfect as ever.
