pond in woodcroft wildspace

Last week Broomfield Park announced that it had been nominated for the UK’s Best Park competition and encouraged Palmers Green residents to vote for it. However, there is another green space in the vicinity of Palmers Green that you should also continue supporting in this competition: Woodcroft Wildspace, the lovely nature reserve which lies between Palmers Green and Winchmore Hill.

Tucked away behind the houses of Broadwalk and Woodland Way, this volunteer-run nature reserve is less well known and less frequented than Broomfield Park. But in some ways that’s the whole point of Woodcroft Wildspace: it is a quiet and enchanting oasis managed to support a diversity of different wildlife. There are ponds, a wildflower meadow, a woodland area and much, much more. The nature reserve also plays an important role in the community, hosting nature education classes for local primary school children and and a variety of nature activities for community groups such as the cubs and brownies.

So please consider voting for Woodcroft Wildspace in the UK’s Best Park competition. Get your vote in before noon on Monday 19th August.

Also, if you haven’t visited Woodcroft Wildspace before, come along to our Summer Family Picnic, which is happening on Saturday 17 August (12 noon to 4pm). There will be lots of opportunity for both adults and children to experience nature including:, den building, loom weaving with long grasses and orienteering. And you can talk to our volunteers to find out more about how we run the reserve and the activities we host.

You’re also welcome to drop by any time and experience the nature and tranquillity on offer at Woodcroft Wildspace. The entrance to the nature reserve is in Downes Court, N21 3PT, and it’s open every day from 9am to 5.30pm.
