Enfield's first community tool library - appropriately enough, located at Palmers Green Library - launches on 24th July and will be opening once a week for people to borrow a range of different tools.
The new volunteer-run community resource will be open between 4pm and 7pm on Thursdays. Residents who are subscribed to the scheme will be able to borrow up to five tools for a week, with an option to renew for a further seven days.
The scheme will not just allow people to save money by not needing to buy items that they will only be using occasionally, but it will also contribute to efforts to make the economy more environmentally sustainable.
Invitation to Enfield Tool Library opening event

Dear Resident, Partner, Colleague,
We are excited to invite you to the launch event for the Enfield Tool Library in Palmers Green, delivered by Enfield Council in partnership with the Forest Recycling Project.
The Enfield Tool Library provides residents with access to a wide range of tools for the home and garden, reducing the need for expensive purchases. This new initiative supports a circular economy while promoting sustainability, community support, and skill development.
Join us to celebrate this exciting new library offer on Thursday 24 July 2025 at 4:30-6pm at Palmers Green Library.
At the event we will hear from Enfield Council and the Forest Recycling Project about the Tool Library and sustainability in our homes. We will also be showcasing some of the tools available to be borrowed and signing up new members.

The annual membership fee is £40, but there will also be a concessionary rate of £15 for people who cannot afford the full fee. To get the scheme off the ground the tool library is offering "early bird" discounted fees: £30 full fee and £10 concessionary fee; to qualify for these you need to register before the end of August.
The scheme has been set up by Enfield Council in conjunction with the Forest Recycling Project, who have experience with running a tool library in Walthamstow.
The tool library's inventory is made up of donated items - to date there are 128 different tools available, but the number will increase as the scheme gathers momentum. Examples of tools in the library are sanders, ladders, loppers, spanners, saws, chisels, drills and a lawnmower.
