new river presentation by richard thomasThe unusual watercourse that flows through Palmers Green has a fascinating history, and this month there are two opportunities to trace its course from rural Hertfordshire to urban London and its history from the 17th to the 21st century.

Two different historians of the New River will be sharing their expertise online via Zoom. I've seen both presentations previously and would recommend watching both, because the two presenters approach their subject in such different, and complementary, ways.

Richard Thomas: The New River

Monday 16th November, 8pm

Richard will be presenting via Zoom to the Enfield Society.

Open to non-members (but I would recommend joining anyway) - contact for log-in details.

More details.

John Polley: London's New River - neither new nor a river

Thursday 26th November, 7.30pm

John was brought up in Bowes Park in a house which he subsequently discovered was built on the site of a disused loop of the New River. Pre-Covid he would impart his knowledge about the New River while leading walks along it. This is at least the second time that he's done the presentation on Zoom.
