202210 stories of enfield celebration day

On Saturday Enfield Town's Culture Palace (located inside the Palace Gardens shopping centre) will be hosting a grand celebration of the stories of some of our borough's many communities. Stories of Enfield Celebration Day will consist of various activities for people of all ages run by eight of the 13 community organisations who were awarded lottery funding to run projects under the banner of Stories of Enfield.

The day will included poems about the River Lea, artifacts relating to the first wave of migration from Bangladesh, a recounting of the tales relating to the legendary Enfield Beast, story telling about migration from Cyprus, the borough's older residents sharing their memories, a film about archeological digs at the site of Elsyng Palace (with mini-digs for kids), a workshop about poet Stevie Smith (who lived in Palmers Green), and finally, a film about the "Boxing Bishop" - Archbishop Costakis Evangelou MBE, who for more than 30 years has served Enfield's young people through the founding of football, boxing and arts clubs in Edmonton. Among the community groups involved will be Palmers Green Action Team and Talkies Community Cinema.

All events are free. Some need to be booked in advance, others are drop-ins.
