Southgate District Civic Voice this month celebrates its 60th anniversary. It began in 1962 as the Southgate Society, the initial aim being to prevent the demolition of some Georgian cottages near the Cherry Tree pub - they're still there today! It was subsequently renamed Southgate District Civic Trust, before adopting its current name in 2020.

As part of the anniversary celebrations SDCV commissioned the production of a special gin by Artisan of Hertfordshire. Minchenden Oak dry gin is named after the famous tree that has its own garden in Waterfall Road.

Minchenden Oak Artisan Gin

minchenden oak gin bottleThis London dry gin is inspired by the Minchenden Oak, which has provided quiet shade beneath its majestic canopy for over 800 years.

Acorns are aged for a year to extract notes of vanilla, caramel and spice, while aromatic oakmoss lichen lends depth to traditional flavours of zesty citrus and juniper.

This gin helps to support the Southgate District Civic Voice and Friends of the Minchenden Oak.
