people taking part in an activity around a table at the ruth winston community centreThe Ruth Winston Community Centre celebrated its 62nd birthday today - it launched on 7th March 1961 as the Southgate Old People’s Welfare Committee. Its current name, and that of the building that houses it, commemorates Southgate's first woman mayor, who used her mayoral year to raise the funds to buy the large house at 190 Green Lanes.

The Centre will be starting some new activities and classes in the next few weeks, adding to its already extensive choice. Fees are payable monthly in advance and you must be a member (membership costs £25 a year).

Next Wednesday and Thursday's lunch menu at Ruth Winston will be Chinese.
