Initially, tools will be repaired at the established tool library in Walthamstow, but the plan is that, once the Enfield Tool Library has enough suitable volunteers, repairs will be done at the library in Palmers Green.
The Tool Library offers the tools repair service based on volunteer availability and skills. The price will depend on how much effort it takes and if any spare parts needed, plus £10 per hour of work. So, if it's something quick and easy, where we don't need to clean rust or replace any parts, it could be just the £10, but if it's a more major repair then it could get more expensive. When a person comes in, we can advise an estimated price. Usually we say that the repair takes a week if it's an easy one, however if it's a more complex one where we need to wait for a volunteer with specific skills to be available, which could take a while.
Examples: Replacing a plug on an electric blender £10, replacing the broken bits of a strimmer including ordering replacement parts £20, fixing a cut electric wire on hedge trimmers £10.
We also do a sharpening service, £2 for knives, £3 for regular tools (shears, shovels, chisels, etc), and we can also sharpen larger/more complex tools like push lawn mowers or hedge trimmers for an extra fee. If there's any rusting or dirt we charge an extra fee for cleaning.
