Cllr Anne Brown represents Southgate Green ward

A second councillor representing Southgate Green ward has left the Labour Party and joined the Community First group of Enfield councillors during what a local journalist has called 'a tumultuous few days at the civic centre'.

Cllr Anne Brown joins fellow former Labour councillor Daniel Anderson, meaning that Cllr Claire Stewart is now in a minority in the previously all-Labour ward.

Enfield Dispatch editor James Cracknell says the "turmoil" in Enfield Council's Labour group dates back to May 2018, when former council leader Doug Taylor was unexpectedly deposed by the current leader, Nesil Caliskan. Since then five Labour councillors have joined Community First and one, Vicki Pite, has left the council completely, while another, Bernadette Lappage, has given notice that she will be resigning this month.
