In August 2014 the lives of 20 Palmers Green residents were threatened when a fire broke out in flats above shops on the eastern side of Green Lanes, just to the north of the Triangle, between Amy's and the shop that is now the Co-op but at the time was Waitrose. Thanks to the heroism of residents and firemen, there were no deaths, but it was a very close thing - one person was rescued clinging to a ledge at the front of the building.

In February this year Harper Stone Property were fined £20,000 for serious breaches of fire regulations. This case will be featured in an episode of the TV series Defenders UK and a researcher for the programme maker, Tomos TV, would like to contact anyone with relevant knowledge of the incident. In particular, she would like to obtain any video footage and get in touch with "local hero" Valeriano Maugeri.

See the box below for more information about the appeal.

Reporting about the fire and fine.

Media appeal

A TV programme, Defenders UK, is appealing for any footage or information about the fire that happened four years ago on the 14th August 2016 at the residential flats above Lapels in Green Lanes, Palmers Green. They will be covering how it has recently been proven in court that the building management company Harper Stone Property Ltd breached fire regulations which nearly led to loss of life. They are searching for any kind of video footage of the incident from local residents and if any tenants who lived in the flats would like to share their experience to raise awareness of this issue. We would also like to speak to local hero Valeriano Maugeri for safely rescuing a woman and her child in the fire. If you would like to get in contact with me to discuss further, please feel free to do so on my details below with no obligation to take part.
