An urgent appeal from a local woman who has been helping a family in Gaza.
Southgate resident Clare Hinchcliffe has been supporting a family in Gaza for the last year, sending Mohammed and his family funds which have kept them going through displacements, famine and constant fear of bombs. She has now launched a fundraiser to help them escape from Gaza City as soon as possible.
Clare says:
"I got to know Mohammed a year ago and have been helping him, his parents and siblings with funds to survive the genocide, thanks to donations from friends. Their home was bombed early on, they lost multiple members of their extended family, they have been displaced and lived in tents in different places and currently exist on one meagre meal of soup or pasta per day.
"But this is urgent: they need to get out of Gaza City NOW as Israel intensifies its bombing and plans to invade with tanks.
"They need funds to get transport to the south of Gaza and to buy a new tent. The costs are extortionate:
- Tent $1600 (including $600 'commission')
- Vehicle hire $900 (including $400 'commission')
- Constructing bathroom for tent $500
"Every penny I get from this fundraiser will go straight to the family via PayPal."
