In social media posts Palmers Green Action Team have revealed that the group's project to bring a cinema and arts hub to PG is 'back on the table'.
Palmers Green Action Team's visualisation of what the former Store21 premises might look like when converted into an arts hub
The PG Action Team have been working on the cinema and arts hub project since 2018, keeping their efforts mostly "under the radar". In 2022 they revealed that they had been in discussions with the owner of Crouch End Arthouse about setting up a similar operation in Palmers Green - not just a cinema, but a venue "mixing the world of film, fine art, live music, discussion groups, theatre, live streaming from the Royal Shakespeare and National theatres, workshops, dance, comedy and whatever else that inspires".
In connection with the ArtHouse project, Palmers Green Action team have been filming in various local businesses, in this case the Philanthropy shop
At the same time, the Action Team launched an online petition in support of the project that quickly accumulated more than three and a half thousand signatures. Unfortunately, their quest to lease a suitable building was unsuccessful and they reluctantly took the decision to downsize their ambitions. Now, two years on, they are sounding more optimistic about getting one of the large buildings that they originally had in mind - the former Store21 premises in Green Lanes.
The Team promise more information in the near future, when we should be able to discover the reason for all the filming that they've been doing in various sites in PG town centre. See their post to Facebook (below) and keep an eye out for further information on Instagram.
"You may have heard some rumours of a cinema and arts hub coming to Palmers Green..."
we’re excited to let you know that this project is now back on the table!
We have been working on this since 2018
@arthousen8 are our partner, and the plan focuses on the old Store21 site. We’re cautiously optimistic and working hard behind the scenes to help make it a reality.
We know we’ve been here before, but this time genuinely feels more positive than it ever has. You might have seen some filming around PG recently — that’s part of building the support we need.
We’ll need strong community buy-in to get this over the line, and we’re so grateful to everyone who has offered expertise and advice over the past few weeks.
It’s a project with a lot of moving parts but we’ll keep you updated over the next few weeks on how things are progressing and how you can get involved.
You can follow @arthousepg_campaign for updates
In the meantime, please keep everything crossed!
Thanks for being part of it all and let’s deliver this for our community
