Enfield Council and Arbeit Gallery have released some initial information about what they're both calling the "launch" of Devonshire Square on Saturday week and the events that will be held there during June and July

It's more accurate of course to talk about a "relaunch", as Devonshire Square has being playing host to markets and other events since 2022. However, until the recent revamp the Square has always had a very provisional appearance, but now that the customised surfacing is complete and once the beds are full of vegetation we it will truly look like a new piece of "urban realm".

The launch event on Saturday 24th May will commence at 1pm with an official ribbon cutting and welcoming remarks, followed by a performance by Lost Chimes, a London-based duo renowned for their emotive story-telling and cutting-edge live sound. Refreshments from local cafes will be served throughout.

During June and July the new public space will be the venue for the Devonshire Square Launch Programme, a "dynamic" series of twenty free events curated by Arbeit Studios, which promises to bring together "creativity, culture and community". Highlights will include:

  • an outdoor art exhibition
  • a makers market showcasing local talent
  • a "lively" street party
  • a family-friendly circus show, and
  • an immersive virtual reality experience.
