The new-look public square at the junction of Green Lanes and Devonshire Road was designed by Hyatsu Architects and has been created with support from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Clare Maloney, Enfield Council's place shaping manager, said:
"It is my pleasure to invite you to the launch of Devonshire Square – a new outdoor community and cultural space located in the heart of Palmers Green.
"The creation of Devonshire Square follows several years of consultation and engagement with residents, communities and businesses, and has been designed in response to local communities’ ambitions for Palmers Green to be a town centre that grows and greens through the involvement of its community, has improved public realm and amenities to showcase and celebrate local businesses, talent and cultural activities."
After the ribbon cutting and official launch ceremony, there will be live entertainment by the band Lost Chimes and refreshments provided by local cafes.
The event will also be an opportunity to find out about the tool library that will be located at Palmers Green Library and will be opening this summer. It will lend out tools provided by residents who no longer need them and will be staffed by volunteers, who will also maintain the tools.
Launch of Devonshire Square
Enfield Council is delighted to launch Devonshire Square, a new community and cultural space located in the heart of Palmers Green. The Square is designed to accommodate a wide variety of events and activities led by the local community.
Join Enfield Council on Saturday 24 May for an afternoon of food and live entertainment to celebrate the launch.
Devonshire Square is the result of several years of consultation with residents, communities and businesses to define this exciting new outdoor amenity. The striking design by Hayatsu Architects includes new mosaic artworks depicting cherished landmarks and key moments in Palmers Green’s history co-designed with pupils from Laurel Park School; informal seating; attractive signage and a community notice board; and new greening elements including a rain garden.
The launch event will commence at 1pm with an official ribbon cutting and welcoming remarks, followed by a performance by Lost Chimes, a London-based duo renowned for their emotive story-telling and cutting-edge live sound. Refreshments from local cafes will be served throughout.
We look forward to celebrating the launch of this fantastic new community space with you all!
