We are promised that 'something exciting is happening' with the (once again closed) Fox. Will it be third time lucky for PG's most important hostelry?

The post-redevelopment Fox is shuttered again, but not for long, it seems. A notice in the window promises that "Something exciting is happening" and tells us to "Watch this space!"

The first company that took on the lease after the long period of closure, Whelans, were let down by the developers, who failed to properly soundproof the function room, making it unsuitable for the live music that Whelans had planned for and prompting their departure, after paying for the interior of the pub to be decorated and fitted out.

Whelans were followed by a small company that had made a great success of two other north London pubs, the Victoria Stakes and the Gipsy Queen. Somehow, the Fox didn't work for them - presumably, for some reason, they weren't attracting enough customers.

Taking over on Monday will be, it's understood, the current licensees of the Winchmore, which by all accounts has been doing well. It belongs to the same pub operating company as the Fox, Star Inns.

Third time lucky? Let's hope so!
