[Green Lanes Business Association Survey]

Question 1.  What do think is good about the area?

Good – green spaces, lots of independent shops, good transport links, lots of very good quality restaurants from varied international cuisines

Question 2.  What do you think is less good about the area?

Less good – increasing levels of street litter and bubble gum tuck to pavements, becoming increasingly scruffy, increasingly inconsiderate parking – on double – increased rowdiness at night – groups of youths, loss of triangle tree was a tragedy

Filthy wheelie bins in front gardens and rubbish /furniture left out in front drives.

Question 3. What would you like to see to improve the area?

Improve – vastly improve cleanliness, more REAL police patrolling, declutter unnecessary street furniture – would improve street level views of shops and businesses, illegal parking (marking?) on domestic with no drop kerb, shop frontages and signage increasingly homogenised and cheap looking, more greenery

Question 4a. Specific aspects – traffic

Traffic – generally pretty good, free flowing and alternate routes, plenty of crossings for pedestrians, better than most areas BUT appalling congestion and parking on pavements along Oakthorpe Road on Fridays. Parking controls never enforced.

Question 4b. Specific aspects – parking

Supports ½ hr free parking

Would encourage more personal use of town centre because of less exhaust fumes polluting area while searching and adding ????? to congestion

Does not support Sunday parking charges

This would discourage opportunities to spend money

Question 4c. Specific aspects – clutter

Clutter -get rid of it – see my comments above. Contrast photos and film on you tube of palmers green in the 1950’s and 1960’s with modern ugly depressing clutter that obscures views of shops.

Question 4d. Specific aspects – look of the shops/architecture

Look of shops – going downhill –colour scheme and signage – new buildings near shell garage and opposite library look good. When will something be done with Truro House still derelict since I I first saw it in 19999 – 13 years ago!!!

Question 4e. Specific aspacts – type and range of shops

Types of shops – shops are becoming more downmarket. Becoming scruffier and more like green lanes – Haringey????

Waitrose, Starbucks, Rimini, Alfred Herring, Red Cross Shop, N London Hospice -all good quality but some new shops there are changing character, although??? Iceland?? is good quality as are many independent.

Question 4f. Specific aspects – amount and use of pavement space

Pavements –see above, need to declutter.

Question 4g. Specific aspects – the Triangle public space

Triangle / clock Tower – what proposed clock tower?

Question 4h. Specific aspects – Greenery

Planters – yes –good idea – potted plants / trees etc would improve  and hide ugly metal poles and bins
