[Green Lanes Business Association Survey]

Question 1.  What do think is good about the area?

Good – reasonable clean, safe pleasant area to shop in. good amount of pedestrian crossings. Plenty of cafes and coffee shops.

Question 2.  What do you think is less good about the area?

Less good – variety of shops is decreasing. We have lost butchers, fishmongers, haberdashers and clothes shops.

Post office is a nightmare as staff don’t know their job

We have too many phone shops and betting shops

Question 3. What would you like to see to improve the area?

Improve – support smaller traders to prevent supermarkets from pushing them out of business. We need their expertise and their high level of customer service

Question 4a. Specific aspects – traffic

Traffic – cyclists jumping red lights is a danger to other traffic and pedestrians. Very little time allowed at traffic lights for pedestrians to cross from the centre island in front of Superdrug to Starbucks. Getting across in these few seconds is an art form

Traffic (hedge lane) – some drives still unclear about whether to turn right nearside to nearside or off side to offside at this junction. Improve signage to make this clear/

Question 4b. Specific aspects – parking

Supports ½ hr free parking. Why? Could buy heavy articles from Green Lanes shops

Does not support Sunday charges

Question 4d. Specific aspects – look of the shops/architecture

Look of shops – design should be in keeping with the rest of the area. Don’t allow neon signs such as McDonalds large yellow M. signage of shops should be in English.

Question 4e. Specific aspacts – type and range of shops

Type of shops –reduce car parking charges

Question 4f. Specific aspects – amount and use of pavement space

Pavements – pizza delivery bikes ride and park on the pavement. This is dangerous.

Question 4g. Specific aspects – the Triangle public space

Triangle / clock. What clock tower? For safety of both traffic and pedestrians the Triangle needs to be left free of clutter to allow clear visibility

Any other comments

Other – need a useable post office - people in this area go to Winchmore Hill or Enfield rather than the palmers green one. We need a store to replace Grouts – haberdashery, materials for sewing / mending / arts / crafts etc
