[Green Lanes Business Association survey]

Question 1.  What do think is good about the area?

Good – good parking space. Reasonable variety of shops. Fairly clean (except outside betting shops (cigarettes))

Question 2.  What do you think is less good about the area?

Less good – parking charges. Toilet area on the triangle. Groups of men congregate around betting shops particularly in good weather. Need more larger stores. Area where recycling used to be. Lodge drive generally – fly tipping / McDonalds waste

Question 3. What would you like to see to improve the area?

Improve – cover over old toilet entrance. Encourage business with free parking times. Stop “unwanted” businesses like betting. Stop fly tipping by McDonalds. Have more shopping “events”.

Question 4a. Specific aspects – traffic

Traffic (hedge Lane junction) – feeder lights for traffic turning right would stop some of the accidents

Question 4b. Specific aspects – parking

Parking – do not introduce Sunday parking

Supports ½ hr free parking. Would support town Centre since a lot of people only come to one shop / bank and don’t like paying. Will wait to do their shopping in bigger centres.

Doesn’t support Sunday charging. This will drive more people to out of town” free parking centres. Not enough businesses in PG to attract Sunday visitors who would have to pay. In the week they do banking etc so may pay

Question 4c. Specific aspects – clutter

Clutter – not too bad

Question 4d. Specific aspects – look of the shops/architecture

Look of shops – generally OK but some need tidying up outside. “Poundshops” with a lot on the pavement downgrade the area

Question 4e. Specific aspacts – type and range of shops

Type of shops – need more specialist shops who can give better service than large stores and chain stores but in shoes and fashion and sports.

Question 4f. Specific aspects – amount and use of pavement space

Pavement space – generally OK but don’t let shops put too much on pavement areas. Chairs and tables where pavement is wide enough is OK but not clutter of goods

Question 4g. Specific aspects – the Triangle public space

Triangle- Toilets?

Question 4h. Specific aspects – Greenery

Planters – lovely like to see them brighten up the area

Any other comments

Other – vacant shops should be repainted and boarded up like the old Grouts. Empty shop could be used by community groups or “activity” groups for kids painting / crafts / art work etc. landlords could get rate reduction for participating. This would bring customers in while children play or just to area instead of going further afield.
